i just recently finished reading, Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor E. Frankl.

This is what I learned:

"Love is the only way to grasp another human being in the innermost core of his personality. No one can become fully aware of the very essence of another human being unless he loves him. By his love he is enabled to see the essential traits and features in the beloved person; and even more, he sees that which is potential in him, which is not yet actualized but yet ought to be actualized. Futhermore, by his love, the loving person enables the beloved person to actualize these potentialities. By making him aware of what he can be and of what he should become, he makes these potentialities come true."

I've always felt that I had to completely know someone before completely loving someone.... but i think i had it a little backwards.... it's more through my love that I will be able to "grasp" another human being.

i finally read Anne of Green Gables. i have purposefully put it off for YEARS thinking that it could not surpass the greatness of the movie, (which is really sayin' something about that movie!) but i don't know what i was thinking! i could read it a thousand times.

as prayer as been on my mind lately, i especially liked the little mentions of prayer through-out the book. the little gem below is one that stuck out to me.

i just finished reading Gone with the Wind and honestly, it's a horrible little book . i found myself torn between hate/despise for Scarlett O'Hara to pure admiration for her and her strength. every time i read i felt the need to analyze and compare myself against Scarlett and her selfish, prideful ways and thoughts. and even though i would hate to admit it, i found that in some instances she was relatable. i could actually see some of her worst characteristics in myself. it got me to thinking about kindness and compassion (because Scarlett had none...unless it was for her own benefit) and my motives behind these qualities. Why am I kind? Is it sincere? Do i really CARE about other people? Do i use others for my own personal gain?

and that's why i say it's a horrible little book because it's made me painfully aware that i can be selfish and rude and stubborn. it's for that same reason i loved it, would read it again, (in a few years) and would recommend it to anyone.

i'm now craving the movie as it's been yeeeears since i've seen it last so if anyone wants to watch a four hour movie.... let me know!

sometimes... i have these moments. moments of true happiness. moments when the world seems to stop for just a minute or a second and all i can FEEL is happiness. my "problems" and "trials" and everything else going on in my life truly stops for just a moment and all i can see, or more so feel, is the good. it's really perfect.

and i think...i think this is why i love st george. because for some reason i can experience these "moments" here more than any other place.

like.....sitting under the shade of a tree in the green grass with my shoes off and surrounded by people who i love and who make me laugh... or walking down main street and enjoying everything that surrounds me. the smells, the breeze, the sunset.

if i could i would never stop sitting under the shade of that tree or i would never stop my walk down main.

This last weekend was the last time I got to see my sister Danielle. I won't see her again until I get home from my mission, march of 2010. (weird!)

Danielle is four years older than me, but for some reason I always think we are the same age. (It could be because we shared a room for ages!) It's funny cause sometimes Danielle will even catch me saying something like,"remember when we were 14 and we...." Which is obviously impossible because if I was 14 she would've been 18. Lucky for me she is my older sister. I will always look up to her, always look to her for validation or comfort and always try to emulate her. I think that's just how it goes.

A couple weeks ago Doug and I went to thanksgiving gardens.....more like secret gardens! They were amazing! We chose the perfect day to go and it is definitely on the top of my list for best summer acitivity. We really had a lot of fun.

I think the greatest thing about my vacation was that I realized Kate is still my best friend.... yeah she's married and it is different.... but in a way it is still the same. We still get along, she still understands me and she is still one of my biggest examples. I'm so happy I got to explore Seattle with her and Parker. They took me all over town and I enjoyed it so much! I decided a slideshow would be the best way to give everyone a taste of the sweetness of seattle.

Friday night my family and I drove down to St. George in two separate cars. Saturday afternoon we drove back... but with only one car. The PLAN was that I was going to spend a great/fun/long weekend down in St. George. Long story short, I got in a wreck and so now I'm back in cloudy P-town. I totaled a car and got a ticket. No one was hurt I just feel way bad. "Cars don't matter. People do." :) (that was my brother trying to make me feel better about the accident. It worked.)

I'm a lucky girl because right when I started college up north my family moved up north... (they didn't think they could live with out me and so they followed me) and so I try to come home at least once a week. Mainly because I want to. I have a fun family. To be honest, sometimes I still wish they lived in St. George. That's my home town and that's where I want to go home.... but even though I miss St. George like crazy, (I swear I think about St. George at least everyday) I'm glad my family is close and I really do love our new home. Every time I drive out there it gets prettier. I pass this little pond on the way and it's my favorite spot.

i don't want to forget.

1. For my birthday, months ago, I had asked for a polaroid camera... that was all i really wanted. I ended up getting in a car wreck and so my parents fixed my car as a birthday present (which i'm sure cost a little more than a polaroid camera). Weeks later my older brother sent me text telling me he got me something and I was going to LOVE it. I asked him what it was... not expecting an answer straight away... but he text back and said a polaroid camera! I'll bring it by tomorrow. I flipped!

2. Last night, before I left my parents house, you could plainly hear that my car needed oil. My dad explained to me how much I would need to put in and what kind to get... all that jazz. This morning I came out to my car and there was a note on my seat. I noticed right away that it was my dad's handwriting. I was a little confused....but apparently, after dropping my older brother off at the airport early early this morning my dad made a stop by Raintree, checked my oil and put in a quart. I'm lucky!

I went bowling tonight with some friends... no big deal... except that I got a bagger. yeah. A bagger! That means FOUR STRIKES IN A ROW!!! Somehow I bowled four strikes in a row. I could say ONE million great things about Katie. She has been my dearest and closest friend since the 7th grade. I remember this one time..... we'd been hanging out at her house all night and later, as I was waiting for my dad to come get me, we were talking to her older sister who told us that she could hear us upstairs all night but she couldn't hear us talking... she could only hear us giggling. The whole night she could hear laughter and more laughter, but nothing else.... she wasn't sure what we were even laughing at because we weren't saying anything! And that is why Kate and I are best friends. I usually don't have to say anything for her to understand me. She's helped me and continues to help me be a better person. She is my bosom friend :)

R- Reasons to smile? family, candy, accomplishing something really hard, fireworks, the beach, puzzles, making someone laugh, reading a good book, summer nights, trampolines, the ball game. (those are the ONLY reasons) :)

178th LDS General Conference

I'm grateful that a friend thought to ask me to general conference. This was only my second time actually going to the conference center and so I was excited. It was the Saturday, afternoon session and it was great!

I'm grateful I got to spend almost the entire weekend with my family. There is no more snow on the ground! Together we watched conference, had a BBQ, played some whiffle ball, and goofed around.

If you know me, which everyone who reads this blog probably does, you know that I suck at math. I suck at math because I don't even care about math. I don't even try to understand math.... because I don't want to understand it. This has resulted in me, retaking my math class a few times :) AND my family making fun of my math skills.... well I'm proud to say that I'm almost positive I'm going to pass my stupid math class. I got a B on my last test. It felt SO good. To some, a B isn't even that good but to me... WOW! especially in math. I have another math test this week and I've figured out the secret to success... STUDY.

I'm studying for an A this time.

{it always bugged me when I'd talk to people who HAD been in the same situation as me... not so good at math... they'd say, "i always hated math too until i understood how to do it. but now I love it.. blah blah blah." i'm not sure if i love math now that i'm coming to understand it a little more... but i don't mind working on my homework as much ... who knew?}

I've known Tatum for over a year now. Everyday we are becoming better and better friends. I kind of consider her more of a little sister... except she doesn't annoy me, as I assume a little sister could. Here's the thing with Tatum. She can always make me laugh....it's always a real laugh too.... never a fake one. she's the first one I find when I get home. she's the only one I trust to cut my hair. she listens to me blab. she has a billion, close friends because she is so easy to get along with and as you can tell she's gorgeous!
